AquaVac®-ACL is an effective and economical solution for water control in the operating room during arthroscopic surgical procedures, as well as any surgical procedure that causes fluid to spill on the operating room floor.
AquaVac®-ACL is a double interconnected mat system fabricated from a special compound of high-grade rubber, precision-molded to ensure full contact and water seal with the operating room floor. AquaVac®-ACL uses standard operating room suction to remove spilled saline or other fluids before it can pool and spread away from the operative area. AquaVac®-ACL has been tested and shown to remove up to 100% of spillage during arthroscopic or other types of surgery.
AquaVac®-ACL enhances surgeon comfort and surgical performance with improved footing on an otherwise wet operating room floor. Operating room turn-over time is greatly reduced by limiting the work required to clean and dry the surgical floor between cases. AquaVac®-ACL decreases liability for slips and personnel injury on the wet operating room floor. Rapid removal of potentially contaminated body fluids in the operating room is an additional benefit of AquaVac®-ACL.
AquaVac®-ACL incorporates two mats interlocked and connected together by the InterVac Suction Connector inserted into the top of each mat. The topside diverts fluid by suction to the underside via 54 holes. The surgeon stands on a dry surface while fluids are suctioned away. The underside of AquaVac®-ACL is a series of channels which seal to the O.R. floor and allows rapid removal of spilled saline by suction. Figure 1.
The two AquaVac®-ACL mats in each set are connected together and then to common suction by the InterVac connector included with AquaVac®-ACL. InterVac-ACL connectors should be replaced after each case. They are a closed channel. InterVac connectors are available from Arthroplastics.
KNEE (Figures 3, 4, and 5)
For maximum effectiveness, position AquaVac®-ACL with the common suction port directly below the knee. Push the common suction port against the floor to form a tight seal. Use standard operating room suction tubing to attach AquaVac®-ACL to a fluid collection canister, connected to wall suction or a Dornoch or Neptune for greatest capacity.
Arrange sterile drapes to direct the spilled fluid to the top surface of the AquaVac®-ACL. Position foot controls on top of the AquaVac®-ACL.
Direct saline flow from cannulas onto the drapes and the AquaVac®-ACL for rapid removal. High-pressure (projectile) saline flow is directed from cannulas onto the AquaVac®-ACL by the surgeon’s cupped hand. Fluid allowed to flow on the surgeon’s gown drains onto the AquaVac®-ACL and is suctioned from the surgical area.
AquaVac®-ACL enables rapid removal of potentially contaminated body fluids from the operating room floor. Disposal or thorough cleaning at the end of each case is recommended.
The InterVac connector, however, is a closed channel and should be replaced at the end of each case. The InterVac connector is available separately from ArthroPlastics in boxes of 10.
Warpage of the AquaVac®-ACL and loss of the floor seal limits effectiveness requiring replacement of the AquaVac®-ACL.
Standard Operating Room disinfectant, clorox solution, as well as by cart-washer (the mats can withstand temperatures up to 220 degrees Fahrenheit).
Stand on a wet AquaVac®-ACL only when it is attached to suction. Vacuum suction to the floor keeps the mat from moving. Do not use AquaVac®-ACL on a waxed Operating Room floor.
AquaVac®-ACL should be stored in its carton at room temperature (60-84˚F). Unopened AquaVac®-ACL may be stored on-end or flat. Please do not store the AquaVac®-ACL folded over as live-rubber of the AquaVac®-ACL will deform and will not seal flat to the operating room floor. AquaVac®-ACL has a limited shelf life and the rubber may stiffen - limiting the ability to seal to the floor.
AquaVac®-ACL is intended for large operating room fluid spills such as encountered in ACL Reconstruction. It is complimentary to the AquaVac-100, for smaller spills
AquaVac®-ACL InterVac connectors are a closed channel tubing and will harbor bacteria. It should be replaced at the end of each case. InterVac connectors for ACL are available separately from ArthroPlastics in boxes of 10, Please call.
